Simple DIY Felt Crowns

June 8, 2018 by Jess MillionMoments

We do a lot of crafts around here. I have always been a maker at heart, and when the kids came along I started collecting craft ideas that we could do as soon as they got old enough to hold a pair of scissors. Our walls are splashed with artwork, and I keep a running stock of glitter, felt, construction paper, and anything else that might be useful for crafting. You could say we are a handmade household, and I would be totally proud of that! Today I have a super cute tutorial for easy no-sew felt crowns that the kids will love!

These are one of our all time favorite crafts to make, and they are perfect for toddlers all the way up to big kids. With Halloween coming up soon, these would be a great addition to any costume, and the personalization possibilities are endless. You only need a few supplies, and with the exception of hot glue, kids can do it all themselves! Here is what you need:

  • Felt sheets in your choice of color
  • Scissors
  • Pen to draw your pattern
  • Jewels, stickers, embellishments, glitter, and more for decoration
  • Hot glue gun (the quick option) or craft glue (the slow option)

To make these, all you need to do is cut out a crown shape from each felt piece, using two pieces for each crown. You can find templates on the internet, or freehand like I did – either way will work. Once you have your crown shapes, cut them out, glue one side together, and then measure it on your child’s head to find the best fit. Mark it, cut off the extra, and glue the other side so that you have a circle. I use hot glue for this first step because it is quick, but if you want to let the kids do that part, then any craft glue will do.

Once your crown has taken shape, go ahead and decorate it! This step is where the craft glue comes in, because the kids love making their own crowns.

After that, let your crown dry for  bit and they are ready to wear! Kaia wanted jewels on hers, but Judah preferred less shiny decorations like google eyes, letters, and fabric flowers. Aren’t they adorable?

This craft was super easy, and a great way to spend some time together doing some thing fun. Want more craft ideas? Check back later this week for another super simple kid friendly craft. Here’s a sneak peek:
