Things have been more than a little crazy around here lately. Between taking on insane deadlines, preparing to send both kids to school next month, and planning a birthday party for Judah, I’d say we need a weekend escape as soon as possible. Luckily I live less than an hour away from one of my favorite places in the world: Asheville, North Carolina.
It is a gorgeous mountain town that is everything I love about a destination: artsy, earthy, tons of vegetarian friendly restaurants, and a hand full of friends that I don’t see as often as I would like. I absolutely adore it there, so naturally I make a trip whenever I can. It is close enough that we typically drive back the same day, but sometimes I like making a getaway of it. Since I love that area so much, I put together a list of a few of my favorite spots for food, fun, and entertainment. Ready? Here we go!
Where to Eat
Asheville has some of my favorite restaurants in the world, and with such a diverse collection of different cuisines, it is easy for almost anyone to find something they love! At the very top of my list is The Laughing Seed. It is a it on the pricier side, but it’s 100% meat free international cuisine is like euphoria in my mouth. They are BIG on flavor, passionate about using fresh ingredients, and part of the Green Restaurant Association. In short, perfection! Second place goes to Rosetta’s Kitchen. This is another vegetarian restaurant, but Rosetta’s is all about the soul of a dish. Featuring items like Tempeh Wings, Veggie Burgers and Loaded Nachos, Rosetta’s will have you leaving with a belly full of amazing “home cooked” flavors! My third favorite is the Jerusalem Garden. It has the most amazing Mediterranean food you will ever eat!
Where to Stay
Asheville is full of places to stay, ranging from budget to over-the-top. Lucky for us, there is a brand new Country Inn & Suites located in gorgeous downtown Asheville which makes it a great location for anything you might want to do there!
The hotel itself looks super nice, and with free wifi, complimentary breakfast, pools and a fitness center, it’s the prefect place to stay while you take in all that Asheville has to offer. They even have a “Read it and return it” library for book fans! Country Inns & Suites is a leading upper midscale hotel brand with over 470 locations in the U.S., Canada, India, and Latin America and I love how guest-oriented their service is.
Things To Do
Asheville is chock full of amazing things to do! Whether you like to get outdoors, are a history fan, or just love soaking up the quirky culture, there is something for everyone. If you like History and architecture, you are going to want to make a trip to the Biltmore Estate. You can take a tour of the gorgeous grounds, visit their winery, and even take in some horseback riding! If you are a music lover, The Orange Peel is a must. They feature amazing music any night of the week! For outdoor lovers, there are mountains, waterfalls, and hiking spots galore including the beautiful Lake Eden, Pisgah Falls, and more. And last but not least, let’s not forget the breweries! Asheville is famous for it’s craft beer enthusiasm, and no trip is complete without a visit to the Highland Brewing Company.
Asheville has SO many different things to offer, and if you are planning a weekend getaway it is the perfect place for some laid back family fun! Want to visit? Enter my giveaway for a TWO night stay at ANY Country Inns & Suites in the U.S. and Canada!
