For as long as I can remember, smoothies have been one of my favorite snacks. They are full of fruit, ingredient possibilities are endless, and I can make them in just a few minutes. I love them for after workouts, as an on-the-go breakfast, or as a midday snack. My kids love smoothies too, so we make them pretty regularly around here. I think the beauty of smoothies is that there are just so many flavor combinations out there to try, but the one the kids ask for time and time again is strawberry and banana, so lately we have been experimenting with twists on those two flavors.

You know I’m not one for indulgent snacks or tons of sugar, so smoothies are a great solution for us! Last week we were experimenting with smoothies and ended up trying powdered Nesquik chocolate powder as an ingredient, and it turned out to be perfect! With Nesquik, I can give them the chocolate flavor they want without sacrificing the healthy aspect of our smoothie, which is exactly what I’m looking for. Among other benefits, it has 3 essential B vitamins to help stay energized, vitamin C to support your immune system, and Iron to help with growth and development – perfect for my growing kids, and it helps start their day off right! And it has 45% less sugar than the leading syrup brand, which you know I love.

Plus they love drinking it alone with milk, and if you know my kids, you know they aren’t exactly huge fans of milk.

So now back to the smoothie – adding in Nesquik totally brings my regular strawberry/banana flavor to a whole new level, and it is perfect to start our day off right! Check out the recipe below.

For the strawberry layer, you will need:

  • 5 strawberries
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 3 ice cubes
  • drop of vanilla extract

For the chocolate banana layer you will need:

  • 1 banana
  • 2 tablespoons Nesquik
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 3 ice cubes

To make each layer, drop all ingredients into a blender and pulse until you have a thick texture. Pour into a cup up to the halfway point, then pour your second flavored mixture the rest of the way. Voila – you’re done! For toppings, you can use crushed up chocolate chips, homemade granola, fresh fruit, coconut, or anything you like!
