Have you ever gotten a gift and thought “that’s cute, but what the heck am I going to do with it?” You shove it in the back of your cabinets until the rare occasion arrises that you actually use it, and while it’s kinda cool, it really just takes up space? Of course you have! For me, this is especially true with floral arrangements. I love them, but I’m up to my eyeballs in vases. Why can’t flower companies put their goods in something that is actually useful for more than just holding flowers? Well, if you’re gifting with Teleflora this year, you won’t have that problem! Their adorable bouquets come in more than just vases – I’m talking cookie jars, mugs, and more. They sent me this amazing Snoopy’s Cookie Jar bouquet to check out, and it’s just fabulous!
Seriously. How cute is this? Not only is the arrangement gorgeous, but it’s in a Peanuts themed cookie jar. Do they know the way to my heart, or what? I just love versatile gifts, and with this Snoopy’s Cookie Jar by Teleflora I can use it daily well after the flowers have gone away.
What am I planning on using it for? Just about anything, but what I really want to do is clear out my cabinets, whip up a batch of “Everything” holiday snack mix, and gift it to someone I love. Which brings me to the second part of my story.
If you spend your holidays baking like I do, then I’m sure you are drowning in leftover ingredients right now. I’m not talking about things like butter, flour, eggs, etc. – I’m talking about toppings, candies, cookies, and everything else that goes into jazzing up holiday desserts. Right now, I have bags and bags of it and it has started to take up way too much space in my kitchen. I don’t want to waste it, but it needs to go. So what’s a girl to do? Use it all for the best holiday snack mix ever, of course!
It looks awesome, right? The secret is that there’s no real recipe for this. You just mix whatever ingredients you have on hand, cover them in chocolate and sprinkles, and then eat! I made two different versions here, and I’ll list out the ingredients for each so you can see what went into mine. The trick to making a great snack mix is to strike a perfect balance between salty and sweet, and I think these definitely do that! Want to make this for yourself? It only takes a few minutes, and it’s easy enough to get the kids in on too! Here are the exact ingredients I used in my mix, but the beauty of this is that anything goes. So get creative! Here is what I’ve got in mine (there are two sets for two different mixes):
Mix #1
- chocolate sandwich cookies
- cheese crackers
- jellybeans
- mini marshmallows
- pretzels
- sprinkles
- White and Milk chocolate Candiquick
Mix #2
- vanilla sandwich cookies
- cheese crackers
- chocolate candies
- pretzels
- sprinkles
- crushed candy canes
- White and Milk chocolate Candiquck
I like to start off by giving myself a nice base, so I melt my milk chocolate and spread it out on some wax paper. It will harden, but while you’re waiting go ahead and mix all remaining ingredients in a large bowl, and then pour in your melted white chocolate.
Mix well, and then spread out on top of your milk chocolate.
Let it sit for about ten minutes, then break it up into pieces. After that it’s ready to eat! Here are both of mine finished – don’t they look awesome?
And then all I have to do is pack it in my Peanuts cookie jar. Perfect!
