I’m sharing #SoMuchMore in my life as part of a JOHNSON’S® + Save the Children Partnership sponsored series for Socialstars™
Being a blogger affords me a unique opportunity to speak to large audiences of people on a daily basis. Through writing and photography I share recipes, talk about my life, and sometimes even get to help make a difference. I feel like because I do what I do, it is important that I dedicate at least some of my time and influence to doing good, and I’m super happy to be partnering with JOHNSON’S® to share their Donate A Photo app.
Bear with me, because I’m about to get real emotional up in here. Because there are some posts that I write that I just can’t get through without crying. As hard as I will try not to, I’m about to sob all over my keyboard right now. Back when Judah was a baby we were living in poverty. It’s a long story to tell, but the basics were that we had a new baby, lived in a house with no heat, my husband worked three jobs, bills were behind, the car was on its last leg, and when the holidays came we couldn’t even afford a small tree. We gave handmade gifts out of things we already had because we couldn’t afford to buy them, but we hid our situation well. We didn’t grow up that way, but we didn’t want to be a burden on our families so we kept it to ourselves.
We lived that way for about about two years, and even though we got out of it and are thriving extremely well now, I still know what it feels like to not be able to go to the doctor when I’m sick because I couldn’t afford it. To not buy medicine because I didn’t have $20 to spare. That is something that nobody should have to do, but sadly there are hundreds of thousands of people all over the world without access to healthcare and necessary resources. Can you imagine having to make that choice for yourself? For your children? It isn’t something that I would want for anyone.
Those years are well behind us, and now we are thriving like I never thought we could, but knowing what I know I feel like I have to help in some way. You know that over the past year I have worked closely with JOHNSON’S® on sharing our life and their amazing products with you, but now I want to tell you about their partnership with Save The Children on the Donate A Photo app. Did you know that every day, millions of babies may miss opportunities critical to growth and development due to poverty, lack of early stimulation, poor health/nutrition, and lack of early education? JOHNSON’S®, along with Save The Children want to change that, but they need our help! You don’t have to give money, time, or belongings to make a difference – all you need is a phone and a photo, and they will do the rest. Through the Donate A Photo app you can “donate” a photo of yourself or your children, and for each photo they will donate $1 to a charity of your choice from those listed on their site. If you choose Save The Children, they will triple that donation.
With your help, this program provides support to 300,000 U.S. children in need, and JOHNSON’S® shares in this mission to make a positive impact on baby’s cognitive, social, and emotional development. They believe every child deserves a shot at a vibrant future.
You can learn more about Donate A Photo here. The app is available through the IOS app store and Google Play. Please donate, but hurry because it ends on 12/19!
