I participated in an Ambassador Program on behalf of Influence Central for Panasonic. I received product samples as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
I’m sure you know by now that photography is my life. It’s my passion, my career, and what I do in my spare time. I live and breathe it, and over the years I have come to learn a great deal about the ins and outs of the gear that makes it possible. I love researching and testing out new bodies, and yes, I’m a camera nerd. I love sharing my knowledge with others about it, I spend a great deal of time mentoring and helping budding photographers. Since I’m such a die-hard DSLR fan, I was really surprised to find myself impressed with the Panasonic Lumix G7 4k camera. Not to get too technical, but mirrorless just isn’t my thing, and I personally feel that there is a color depth and richness to higher level dslr’s that no other camera tech can touch. Until now.
See the above image? It was taken with my Panasonic Lumix G7, and let me tell you I am in love. Yep, I said it. This camera snob loves her new non-dslr camera, and that isn’t something that happens easily. This baby packs a punch in a tiny package! Features include a 16 megapixel sensor, fully manual controls, 4k video, 4k photo, a touch screen LCD panel, and several great image manipulation options as well as a touch screen. Now, you might be thinking “oh, that doesn’t sound too impressive”, but let me break this down for you.
The thing about 4k photo is that it is crazy accurate. Before getting the Panasonic Lumix G7 I was wondering what the fuss about 4k was just like everybody else, but now that I have first hand experience with it, it is blowing my mind! The beauty of 4k is that I don’t even have to take a photo in the traditional sense – all I have to do is set my dial to 4k photo, press the “record” button while my scene unfolds, and then stop it where I want. But wait – I’m sure you are thinking “well that’s video. I want still images.” So, the beauty of 4k photo is that when you record, each second of video captures 30 still frames. That’s 90 stills for 3 seconds. So after recording, you push your playback and instead of playing a video, it gives you an entire catalog of stills that you just captured. Scroll through and choose any (or all) to save, and that’s it. You have perfect, crystal clear images without even waiting for the moment. Just letting it happen – and let me tell you, I wish I could do this with every camera, because I miss a whole lot less than when I have dedicated shots! So now that I’ve explained that, lets check out what it can do. I took it to my parents house and snapped away while the kids did what they do best. Now, get ready to be blown away, because this is what happened:
Whoa, right? Just look at that detail – crisp, clear, amazing color depth and quality in a tiny package. It has other features such as wi-fi, touch screen focusing, and allows for interchangeable lenses as well.
So now that you know the ins and outs of this powerful little camera, keep an eye out over the next few months for it to show up on the blog from time to time, and don’t worry – now that I’ve got all the technical stuff out of the way the next posts will be all about capturing those gorgeous images!
