Oh my goodness. You guys. Have you ever heard of OREO cookie balls? I hadn’t until recently but they are basically like cake pops but better. And when I say better I mean OREO flavored, y’all. Could there be a more perfect treat? I don’t know, but ever since seeing them on Pinterest recently I haven’t been able to get them out of my head. And do you know what I did? I grabbed all the ingredients from Walmart and made them! Now, I must warn you, I have had my fair share of cake ball fails. I’m talking epic, lumpy, clumpy, candy coating falling off failures. I was honestly scared about these turing out the same way, but guess what? They’re fabulous!
So how do you make these little bites of heaven for yourself? It is SO ridiculously easy, and these are fabulous for your next party. I know that I’ve been whipping up holiday treats left and right, but when I was thinking about these balls I thought they would look fabulous in glitzy gold for the after Christmas party crowd. And seriously, they turned out so well that they fit right in with your next high fashion shindig to count down to 2015!
Here’s what you need:
- Package of OREO cookies.
- Package of softened cream cheese.
- Bag of semi sweet baking chocolate.
- Bag of white chocolate chips (optional).
- Edible gold decorations for your OREO cookie balls (optional).
Your first step is going to be to crush up the entire package of OREO cookies. You can do this any way you’d like, but the easiest by far is to pop them all into a food processor and pulse it for a few seconds.
Next, mix in your cream cheese until evenly blended.
Portion it out into half handfuls, roll each of those into 1-inch balls and place on some parchment paper.
Pop the whole thing in the freezer for around 10 minutes to firm up so you can dip them in your coating. While you are waiting for this go ahead and clean up your area and prepare your chocolate. I’m using regular chocolate and white chocolate but you can use any kind you’d like – you can even add in a little powder based coloring to the white chocolate to make gold or silver balls too! So, you are going to need to set out a sheet of parchment paper and then grab a fork, a few toothpicks or any kind of thin stick to use for dipping your OREO cookie balls. I’m using a fondue skewer and it works really well. Now melt your chocolate (one flavor at a time) in a small, deep bowl.
Now comes the hard part, right? I mean, the dipping is always my downfall. But you know what? It wasn’t that bad. Yes, there is a little trial and error, but you can totally snack on a few duds before you strike gold right? I think so! So just take your OREO cookie balls out of the freezer and start dipping! Here’s the way I do it: First I stick my skewer in the middle of one. Next, I stick it straight into the chocolate so that it almost covers the entire ball and then do a little twist. Now pull it out on its side so it doesn’t slide back off the skewer and set on your parchment. Before it melts sprinkle some gold sparkles on it and let it dry! Seriously, that was a lot easier than it seemed.
Aren’t they adorable? And just check out this creamy, chocolatey OREO cookie inside. YUM!
