By now you know how much I love cloth diapers. Besides being a great financial option and lowering my impact on the environment, they’re just so darn cute! I usually spend a great deal of time browsing Etsy for ones that catch my eye, and when I came across Smush Tush I fell in love with all of their unique prints. This shop carries regular diaper covers, pocket diaper covers, newborn diaper covers and two kinds of absorbent inserts. Covers and inserts are sold separately, but they’re still extremely affordable! I prefer Mom owned businesses over big box retailers any day, but when I found out that Kat (the talented Mama behind Smush Tush) also supports a great cause I knew I had to share with my readers! Here’s a little about her, her business, and the charity she supports.
My name is Kat and I live in Portland, Oregon. I am the mother of two little Smushes under the age of three and a part-time pediatric RN. I started Smush Tush about a month ago because I believe in cloth diapers. Nothing makes more sense than saving money, keeping our landfills free from everlasting disposable diaper garbage, and of course, there is nothing cuter than a fluffy tush! Like every one of us CDing mamas, I quickly became obsessed, and then that obsession developed into creating unique diapers for friends, which further became a small business. Mostly, I just want to help raise awareness about the ease and awesomeness that is cloth diapering.
I donate $1 from every Smush Tush sale directly into a Morale Fund for the unit I work on at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland. I work on an Intermediate Care Unit, which is a step-down unit from the Pediatric ICU. Most of our patients suffer from congenital conditions, brain tumors, extreme developmental delays, and trauma incidents. These extremely sick kiddos don’t see much in funds from the community like other units do, and I felt an immense need to help. Though I can’t provide 72-inch flat-screen televisions ala Microsoft, with all the help from my customers, we can provide smiles in the simple form of pizzas, snacks, and movies for the sick little smushes and their families on my unit. I am and forever will be grateful for all of your support.
I was sent an Owl print Pocket diaper cover for my review. Isn’t it cute? It even came with a little instruction packet/ tip sheet full of FAQ’s on cloth diapering! This one is made from an outer layer of PUL and a super soft Microfleece inner lining. I stuffed it with one of my own standard Microfiber inserts for the review, but medium sized prefolds fit just as well. The craftsmanship of this diaper is amazing. The stitching is very straight and strong, the elastic is generous, and I have no doubt it will last both of my kids to potty training.
Little J is just under 25 pounds at 21 months old, and while he is tall he’s a bit on the skinny side. I love the fit on this diaper, it is very trim and doesn’t have a ton of extra fabric to bunch up but still allows for growing room. I can even get it under a pair of jeans! The fleece lining is super soft and really wicked away any moisture even when the diaper was full. There are three different rise settings and a very generous waist range, so it truly fits any baby. I really have nothing bad to say about this diaper, and I hope you will check out Smush Tush for yourself!
