A few weeks ago I posted about our switch to Purina’s Bright Mind dog food from PetSmart for our adult dog. It’s been a solid month since beginning the transition, and I can say that I’m very happy that we made the move. Our dogs are part of our family, and one thing that I want to make sure of is that they are at their best for as long as they can be.
Our dogs lead a pretty cushy life – they get to lay around all day, they have a big back yard to run in, and of course they have us to snuggle up to at night! They love us unconditionally and we love them as well, which is why feeding a food that supports cognitive function like Purina ProPlan Bright Mind is so important. A few years ago Izzy was a ball of energy and sharp as a tack, but today age is catching up to her.
She is getting grey around her mouth and her coat isn’t as shiny as before. She sleeps more than she did, and she doesn’t run quite as much when she goes outside. She is still happy, healthy, and active, but it is time for us to make the most of her nutrition to ensure a happy future.
Her favorite place in the house is on the back of the couch (yes she perches like a cat). She climbs up there every day and sleeps, watches the cars out the window, or just hangs out while we go about her day. I’m not sure *why* she does it, especially since she has a nice cushy bed on the ground, but she loves her spot up high. She’s such a funny dog, but we love her to pieces!
Moving back to talking about giving her a bright future, it is super important what she eats these days. According to experts at Purina Pro Plan, around age seven, the glucose metabolism in a dog’s brain begins to change, which can affect memory, learning, awareness or decision making. Purina Pro Plan discovered a way to promote alertness and mental sharpness through nutrition with their new Bright Mind dog food. It contains enhanced botanical oils shown to promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs seven and older with visible results within 30 days, and for us personally we love how well it supports her needs.
The kids love helping take care of her, and they totally fight over who gets to feed her for the day. I love that they want to take on the task, and I think that letting them take part in caring for our dogs helps them learn the importance of chores and responsibilities.
