Festive Nail Art, Quality Time And A DIY Piggy Paint Gift

My daughter and I have a weekly girl time tradition.  My husband works every Tuesday, and with Judah in school it is just Kaia and I for the day so we spend our morning painting our nails, watching movies and (if we have time) making a craft or two.  I LOVE our Tuesdays together and I feel like I have been really getting to know Kaia on a new level without everyone else around.  Judah had two years alone with us before she came along, and since he has been in school this is really the first time that Kaia has gotten any real one on one time with either of us and I am loving every second!  My favorite of our girl day activities is painting our nails – I’m not a very “girly” girl, but I love cute nail polish so a few months ago Kaia was watching me paint my toes and she asked for hers to be painted as well.  She giggled and sang and it melted my heart so from that our weekly nail day was born.  Since the holidays are here I thought I’d share a peek into one of our nail days, show you a few festive nail designs AND create a quick ornament nail polish gift that’s just perfect for the little lady in your life!

We have tried several different brands of polish, and we normally use a quick drying kind but I recently heard about Piggy Paint and had to check it out so I went to Walgreens to scoop up a hand full of colors.  So what is Piggy Paint?  Well, it’s a semi quick drying, all natural nail polish for kids.  It doesn’t have a yucky smell and it comes in super cute colors with bottles made for tiny hands.  They even offer their very own nontoxic polish remover and filing boards!  Seriously, they are adorable.

When I got home I divided up the polish into keep and give.  I set the give pile aside, put on our favorite princess movie and dove into festive nail art fun.  We normally do single colors, but this time we kicked it up a notch and came up with three adorably glitzy looks that are perfect for the holidays.  And the best part? They are super easy which is great for squirmy littles like Kaia.  Let’s check out this adorable polish in action, shall we?

Our first look is inspired by the colors in a super popular movie that’s on everyone’s mind this year and calls for a teal blue Piggy Paint and some sparkly glitter.  All you do is paint one coat of the blue and before each nail dries sprinkle on some of the glitter. Wipe off the excess after it dries and you are finished!

Next we have a cute light strand and for this you will need a liquid eyeliner pen and four shades of Piggy Paint.  Start out by making curvy lines with the eyeliner pen on each nail and let it dry for a minute.

After that dot on one spot of the line with each of your selected colors, let dry and then follow up with a clear top coat.  Ta-da! Now you have an adorably festive light strand!  I am not usually one to play favorites, but this one is just the cutest I’ve ever seen!

Lastly, I couldn’t leave myself out so I decided to use my favorite color (green) and top it with a little shimmer of gold.  I normally let Kaia paint mine since I paint hers, but for the sake of photos I did it myself this time.  Isn’t it cute?

Easy stocking stuffer nail art gift and cute DIY ornaments!

If you aren’t a fan of the more vivid colors don’t worry, they make traditional pinks, purples and reds too!  I love how well the Piggy Paint covers each nail and I am pretty sure we have found our new go-to brand.  Besides the ease of use and adorable colors I really love that their formula is nontoxic and safe for those who might bite their nails or get it on their skin.  Kaia sometimes paints her own nails and she usually ends up getting it ALL over herself.  But with this paint I don’t have to worry about chemicals getting on her skin.

So, now that we have some adorable nail art inspiration going on let’s talk about gifts.  If you know a nail polish obsessed little princess like mine these are perfect as an inexpensive gift set or stocking stuffer.  You can go the traditional route with a box and wrapping paper, or you can do something that matches the cute factor of your nail art and create a one of a kind hanging ornament gift set that is perfect for girls of all ages!

Easy Diy Nail Art Gift Set

For this you will need three bottles of nail polish, some glitter capsules (sold in the nail section at most stores), tissue paper, sparkly ribbon, some yarn and an empty plastic tree ornament.  I got this specific one in the holiday section at a local store but I have seen them at craft stores and general big box stores everywhere recently.  If you can’t find one that is shaped like a lightbulb you can use a ball shaped ornament instead.  Here is what you do:

  • 1. If your ornament doesn’t come apart as two halves or have a large enough opening then grab an X-acto knife (do NOT let your children do this step) and cut a little “door” in the back of the ornament.
  • 2. Fill your ornament with your nail art items.
  • 3. Use tissue paper to “pack” everything in and fill in spaces.
  • 4. Close your “door” back and secure with clear tape.
  • 5. Tie on a small length of yarn around the top of your ornament for hanging.
  • 6. Tie on your ribbon over the top of that and you’re done!

Wasn’t that super easy?  Even though it is the holidays you can also use these as party favors, girls day gifts, bridal shower favors and SO much more!  Want to grab this adorable nail polish for yourself?  Head over to Piggy Paint’s website and enter the code piggypaint at checkout for 15% off until 12/23!  You can also find Piggy Paint in the nail section of most local Walgreens stores.
