I created these Campfire Gooey Bars using TWIX Bites as part of a sponsored campaign with Collective Bias and its client.
You know that saying “a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”? Well, for my husband that’s true. I love him to pieces but the man has a serious sweet tooth. And do you know what his number one favorite sweet is? TWIX bars. Father’s Day is coming up, and since we don’t usually do traditional gifts for each other I came up with a fabulous “experience” gift for him this year involving backyard camping. You see, we are BIG on outdoor stuff around here. We go camping on the regular when the weather gets warm, but we have never done it in our own backyard. We aren’t planning any actual excursions until July, so I can’t wait to see his face on Father’s day when he sees our outdoor space transformed into a camper’s wonderland. But what in the world does this have to do with chocolate? Well, every holiday deserves treats, right? I wanted to whip him up something using TWIX, so I combined them with a classic campfire dessert and came up with what I like to call Campfire Gooey Bars.
I am normally a little bit of a perfectionist in that I like my food to look pretty. But as I was cutting these bars to see my handiwork I quickly realized that they *aren’t* that pretty. Gasp! But you know, it’s okay. My guy is a little rugged. He would probably give me a great big side eye if I gifted him some perfectly pretty bars wrapped up in decorative ribbon and all that jazz. I will admit that when I first started thinking about this post my first instinct was to make up adorable TWIX and marshmallow filled handheld pies with the word “DAD” on them in cute pie crust letters, but can you really imagine a rugged dude munching on a mini pastry with cute decorations on it? Nope. So even though these don’t look perfect, they totally are! Oh, and did I mention they are super easy?
Campfire Gooey Bars
You will need:
- 1 package of brownie mix (prepare as directed on box)
- 1 bag TWIX Bites
- 2 cups mini marshmallows
- 1 package of graham crackers
- 1/2 stick of butter, softened
- brownie pan
- nonstick spray or something similar
First you want to preheat your oven to 350 degrees and spray your pan with nonstick spray. Next, mix up your brownie batter as directed on the package (it doesn’t matter what kind you get) and spread out a thin layer in the bottom of your pan. Then combine melted butter with crushed graham crackers and layer that on top of your brownie mix.
Now add a layer of TWIX Bites on top of that.
On a side note, make sure when you’re shopping that you get TWIX Bites and not minis. It will save you a TON of time not having to unwrap and cut them all to size. Plus if you get hungry while making these you can just open up the bag and grab a few to snack on. Genius!
Now add a generous layer of mini marshmallows. Scoop your remaining brownie mix into a plastic snack bag, cut off a corner and squeeze it in ribbons on top of it all. Don’t worry about it looking messy, it will turn out just fine. Pop it in the oven for around 20 minutes.
When they are ready your marshmallows will be golden brown. Make sure to check the color a few times so they don’t burn! Take them out to cool for at least 5 minutes and then all you have to do is cut and serve!
I know, they aren’t exactly pretty. But they are ooey, gooey, and oh so delicious! Do you see that seriously droolworthy chocolate creation?!
I’m pretty sure my husband is going to love them, and this is just a small preview of the cool things that we will be doing so check back after the big day! If you want to gift these to a special guy in YOUR life you can easily customize them any way you would like – substitute ready made cookie dough for the brownie mix, add chocolate chips, coconut, butterscotch, or anything else you can imagine. You could even swap out the TWIX for Snickers or Milky Way Bites! And then of course since this is a gift you can wrap them up in a (not too) pretty package.
