Pregnancy Update: 34 weeks

May 11, 2012 by Jess MillionMoments

Remember when I used to talk about the time flying by with this pregnancy?  Well I think I jinxed myself.  Now, being in the final few weeks, it’s creeping.  Slowly.  I’m tired of being pregnant at this point, and I want to meet my baby girl!  As far as preparation, I’ve got most everything done.  All her clothes are clean and put away, her little nook in our bedroom is all set up and stocked with extra blankets and a few diapers, and we’ve purchased almost everything we need.  Sorry for the phone picture this week, I didn’t feel like dealing with the DSLR.

Want to know what’s up with baby this week?  Here’s what Babycenter has to say:

How your baby’s growing:

Your baby now weighs about 4 3/4 pounds (like your average cantaloupe) and is almost 18 inches long. Her fat layers — which will help regulate her body temperature once she’s born — are filling her out, making her rounder. Her skin is also smoother than ever. Her central nervous system is maturing and her lungs are continuing to mature as well. If you’ve been nervous about preterm labor, you’ll be happy to know that babies born between 34 and 37 weeks who have no other health problems generally do fine. They may need a short stay in the neonatal nursery and may have a few short-term health issues, but in the long run, they usually do as well as full-term babies.

Symptoms:  Just the normal aches and pains, most days I feel like an 80 year old woman.  I’ve been having tons of irregular contractions, much stronger than Braxton Hicks, but nothing worse than a bad cramp.

Weight Gain:  Nada.  Still at a total of 20 pounds

Cravings: Orange Juice and Caramel.  I normally don’t like either of those, but at the moment I MUST have them every day.  Gross!
Medical stuff:  Pretty boring, but really good.  Baby girl is head down now!  I’m having my prenatal appointments every two weeks now, but I think next week will start weekly appointments.
Best thing this week:  I started packing my hospital bag!  I’ve also started clearing out the video camera and transferring all of our videos to my external hard drive.  As I was going through all the files I realized how awesome it is going to be to have a newborn all over again!
