Pregnancy Update: 22 weeks

February 16, 2012 by Jess MillionMoments

22 Weeks

What happened to 21 weeks??   I was being lazy.  I’ll try harder to not miss any more weeks from now on.  Things are going pretty well now, even though I’m tired and sore a lot I feel good.  I love my growing belly, and I love being able to see baby girl move from the outside.  I’m not getting crazy heartburn (knock on wood) like last time, but there’s still time for that.  One things I’m really looking forward to warmer weather so I can wear comfy skirts and tank tops instead of looking like a whale all bundled up in sweaters!

Happenings of the Harper Household
Here’s what week 22 is all about from The Bump:
During week 22, baby’s invading your space, which is why it might be tough to catch your breath and why your back might be killing you. Hey, as she grows, she may be expanding your belly so much (so fast) that you might have some stretch marks — and you might even have a newfound “outtie”! What’s not so cool is that the stretch marks may never fade, but we promise they’ll fade in color after delivery. And your outtie will go back to an innie, we promise. As for sex, all these body changes, along with another fun one — discharge! — might be messing with your mojo, but some moms-to-be actually find they have an increase in libido around 22 weeks. That’s because your hormones are pretty much raging at this point. This is also a good time to schedule a maternity portrait session. You’ll want to aim for the third trimester — but not so late that you risk going into labor before your appointment.
your baby’s the size of a papaya!
During month five, the average fetus measures about 10.5 to 11.8 inches and weighs about 12.7 to 20.8 ounces.

Here’s my personal stuff:

Symptoms:  Oh the body aches!  I feel like a grandma.  Also, I can’t comfortably lie on my back anymore without getting short of breath and feeling lightheaded.  That’s due to the weight of the baby pressing on the vein that carries blood to your heart.  Not good!

Weight Gain:  I’m at 150 now, so I’ve gained about 12 pounds so far.  I was looking back, and by 22 weeks with Little J I had already gained 20! (sadly though, I still weighed less than I do now)

Cravings:  Nope.

Medical Stuff:  Apparently after looking at my Anatomy scan, my doctor is a bit worried about my cervix (the barrier that holds the baby in).  They are supposed to be long and closed, but mine is on the short side and kind of funneling.  This brings up concerns about pre-term labor, so I go for a recheck in a few weeks.  Hopefully it’s nothing.
