17 weeks
Not much has changed this week. My belly is the same, but it feels much firmer. I’m completely in Maternity clothes now too, and I am LOVING being able to rock elastic waistbands once again. Most of my Maternity wardrobe is new because I gave all my old stuff away, and most of it has come from either Old Navy or Motherhood Maternity. It’s all so cute too!
Want to know what’s up with baby at 17 weeks? Here’s what The Bump has to say:
Try not to get freaked out by the numbers on your scale. At 17 weeks, baby’s working on getting stronger, and your body’s working on getting bigger. That means putting on some pounds and — we hate to break it to you — getting some stretch marks. Make sure you document your growing bump by taking lots of photos. Sure, you might not always feel so pretty, but one day you’re going to look back at pregnancy and reminisce (really — we promise). You’ll also want to start figuring out some plans, like whether or not you’re going to find out baby’s gender (you should be able to soon!), and what kind of childbirth class you’d like to take. As you start making these decisions, the pregnancy will feel even more real, which is probably super exciting, but part of you is probably feeling a little nervous. After all, you’re at week 17; that’s almost halfway there and there’s still a lot left to do. Chill! You’ll get it done. Just remember not to try to do it all yourself — ask for help!
your baby’s the size of an onion!
Baby continues to beef up. Now she’s about 5.1 inches long and weighs about 5.9 ounces.
your baby at 17 weeks
- Her rubbery cartilage is now turning to bone.
- And she’s growing some meat on those bones — putting on some fat.
- She’s growing a stronger, thicker umbilical cord, too.
Here’s my weekly stuff:
Symptoms: Constant lower back pain. Not fun. I’m noticing the occasional round ligament pain getting more frequent due to my rapidly growing belly. It’s also getting more difficult to bend over or sit in certain positions too. Other than that, I’m feeling great! And the best thing? Hardly any more nausea! Yay!!!
Weight gain: Still at 140, so 3 pounds total. I’ve finally gotten my appetite back, and lately I’ve been starving all the time. So I expect that will change things up.
Cravings: I’m still obsessed with french toast. Now I also want Indian food every day. I’m getting hungry just typing this!
Medical stuff: Eh, same. I had an ultrasound last week and got a 99% guess at the sex, but I’m keeping quiet until my Anatomy scan on the 30th just to make sure the tech was right. I’m a worrier by nature, so I have to be double sure!
Best thing this week: Movement. I’ve been feeling the little babe wiggling around for a few days now and I couldn’t be happier! Now I can’t wait to feel it from the outside too.
